  • Created “The Read In” project at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Each year we chose an inner city African American or Latino school. The students acted out a book along with the help of parents and teachers. There were contests to see which class could read the most books. A television anchor of color would introduce the book/play the children had prepared. In addition, professors, doctors, graduate students, regular students, secretaries, different people of color from the university came and read stories to the students in every class of the school.

  • Created Coming Together in Skokie, now known as Coming Together in Skokie and Niles Township, acknowledging the diversity of our communities.
